                            THE WINDOW
a Site Specific Theatrical Work in our Midtown storefront space

              May 23-29, 8 – 10 pm @  RCINY Gallery
Obie Award Winners Samuel D. Hunter and Nic Ularu as well as Daniela Codarcea Kamiliotis and Saviana Stănescu will team with creator/director Ana Mărgineanu on the project in May and April 2012
The corner of Third Avenue and 38th Street will offer passersby the chance to experience theater as onlookers this spring.  RCINY will present THE WINDOW, created, developed and directed by Romanian-born, New York-based director, Ana Margineanu, in April and May.

For THE WINDOW U.S.-based Romanian stage designers have been invited to redesign RCINY’s Third Avenue storefront gallery space, and acclaimed U.S. playwrights to write new plays for this re-imagined gallery. In this project the space dictates the shape of the performance as opposed to the normal order of operations where the nature of the play determines the set. Different teams of stage designers and playwrights will work together for each run of the project.
THE WINDOW breaks the classic convention of the theatregoer buying a ticket, entering the theatre and just seeing a show.  This time, the audience members are in control and decide how long to watch the performance. Pedestrians may view the piece as a “living window” for a few moments, in a quick flash or in its entirety.

Playful Targoviste in Wiesbaden this June!

Playful Targoviste
will close the prestigious New Plays from Europe Festival 2012 in June. A city is turned into an amusement park: for two weeks, author Peca Stefan and director Ana Mărgineanu threw themselves into the life of Târgovişte. They collected myths, legends, true stories and living originals, and assembled a kaleidoscope. Every member of the audience embarks on a different journey of discovery: on an intimate date with Dracula, to a staged rehearsal visit for the play “I shot Nicolae Ceauşescu”, as audience to a black humour neighbourhood comedy, to a fortune teller’s cabinet or on a trip with Gigel in his imaginary car. In four rounds, the admission to 18 mini-dramas is decided by a raffle. The play will lead the audience into the depths of the theatre: to rehearsal rooms, to dressing-rooms, to small and large stages.

Hotel Project is coming in Spain this July!

Hotel Project is a theatrical experience for one spectator at a time, performed in and inspired by a hotel and created by local and international teams of playwrights and directors. Adapted for local hotels in major cities around the world, this performance offers audiences a view of contemporary international artists and emerging theatrical forms. The uniqueness of the project consists in the relationship between performer and spectator. Audience members will travel through several rooms revealing the unseen lives of others. In this exclusive performance, you get to be a fly on the wall. Closed doors will be open.
